Move your FlipShare Library to a Disk with More Space

A very important new feature has been added to the most recent version of FlipShare (Version 4.5 -- if you don't have it, see this: FlipShare Upgraded to 4.5). That feature is the ability to change the location of your video library.  With the current version, the default location is still likely to be on your system drive (e.g., C:\Users\Darrell\Videos\FlipShare Data), and that can be a problem if the drive fills up.

In fact, I prefer to have my programs on one drive and my data/media files on another, for a variety of reasons.  In addition to the fact that media files can fill up a drive very quickly,

  • combining programs and data on one drive causes that drive to fragment very quickly, slowing your whole system down.
  • playing media files with software on the same drive can slow or interrupt playback, and interfere with editing.
  • I'm seldom interested in backing up my software, but very worried about what happens if I lose my data.  It's much easer to arrange backup if the data is well organized, on a separate drive.

If you simply move your files outside of FlipShare, FlipShare will no longer be able to find them, and you will no longer be able to edit or share them from FlipShare.

To change your library location, drop down the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences". Press the "Change Location...." button, and navigate to the new drive/directory location where you wish to locate the library. Problem solved.
