This Week's Hot News:  FlipShare TV

Just a note to make you aware that FlipShare TV has finally been announced and released.  I've created an entire Topic, consisting of articles and videos on the subject.  Check it out.

... and Now for the Weekly Tip

The situation:  You have a long video on YouTube, or perhaps a series of them, on a particular subject.  Maybe it's a training video, or a family history.  You would like for people to go to the spot they are looking for -- not only the right video, but the right place in the video -- at their choice.

YouTube will let you do that.  You just have to know how.

For example, I have my video on YouTube from Secrets of the Flip Mino-HD,  called "Flip Secrets: From the Box to the Computer."  I also put the second video from the series on YouTube, called "Flip Secrets: Watching and Sharing your Flip Videos."

So, let's break these down into Chapters and Sections

Chapter 1: From the Box to the Computer

Chapter 2: Watching and Sharing your Flip Videos

So, how did I do this?

The secret is all in the URL, or web address, used to access the video.  If you click on the "Chapter 1" link, above, you arrive at an address on YouTube that looks like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFjuBUzUkeo

Look at the difference between this URL and the one I arrive at if I click on "Controls and Features":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFjuBUzUkeo#t=1m53s

The difference is that an addition has been made to the end: #t=1m53s

That additional piece means to begin to watch the video 1 minute and 53 seconds from its beginning.

You can use this technique in emails, in reports -- any kind of html content you wish.
