Camtasia Screencasts in High Definition for YouTube: The Definitive Guide

YouTube is the democratic medium of video distribution, and offers the
opportunity for teaching, demonstration, and marketing to all comers,
for free. Its usefulness in these contexts has always been limited,
however, by its low limits on resolution and file size. In 2008,
YouTube introduced a number of higher quality display options for
submitted videos, and most recently they introduced true HD quality and
raised their file size limit from 100 megabytes to 1 gigabyte.

This development is especially important for screencasts, which
capture the display on a computer screen. If the resolution is low,
text on the screen becomes unreadable. YouTube's new HD capability
overcomes this limitation nicely.

Unfortunately, YouTube has provided little to no information about
how users can capitalize on this new capability. There are specific
elements that YouTube is looking for in a submitted video which
determine whether or not they will render and make available an HD
version. Fortunately, users tend to figure things out for themselves,
many videos have been authored containing various versions of "the
formula" for acceptance.

In this video, we present our version of how to produce a screencast
with Camtasia that makes the grade. The results, as evidenced in this
very video, seem to be quite good. If you have suggestions about how to
improve on our formula, please contribute a comment.
