  • Designing your cover, insert, and label, and uploading to a duplication service

My wife pointed out that I mis-read Kunak's pricing for shipping, but it's a GOOD thing.  The charge for producing a DVD is $1.75, regardless of how many you make, but the shipping cost STARTS at $4.00 -- thus, $1.75 + $4.00 = $5.75 -- but there are quantity discounts for shipping four or more DVD's to the same address in the United States.

It turns out that if you ship four DVD's to the same address, Priority Mail, the shipping cost is only $2.00 per unit, for a total cost of $15.00.  The shipping cost declines with the number purchased.

There is a calculator available to compute the final cost.  Go to http://kunaki.com and click on the "Prices" tab.  There is a calculator at the top of the page that lets you specify a quantity and get the total invoice cost.

Right now, Kunaki is only charging $1.00 for manufacturing and $4.00 for shipping DVD's in clamshell cases in single quantities -- less per copy for shipping up to 11 units. Example: 4 DVD's shipped to same address via priority mail for $12.00.

The weird thing is that if you ship more than 11 copies, manufacturing prices go up.

Argh!  From what I can see Windows DVD maker runs only on Vista or Windows 7...not XP.  I am out of luck again......

Title: DVD Creation

Would you like for me to try and find a good piece of free DVD making software that runs on XP?

'kay... See what I can do. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to chime in.

Nero is many people's choice if you're willing to spend a few bucks, but my philosophy is 'free is good. free and good is better.'

This one has shown up since the last time I looked (added to SnapFiles.com on January 3, 2010):  DVD Flick

I just made a DVD of my dog, and it worked quite well for me.  It's a very simple, step-by-step procedure.

Click here to go to the  topic in the Software Forum that provides a description, the download link, and a link to a forum where questions get answered and users help to improve the product, which is open-source, and free.

It works with Windows XP, and all other versions of Windows.

I just had a question about making DVD's on Windows 7. As it turns out, Windows DVD Maker only comes on Windows 7 Home Premium or better. It doesn't come on their "Starter" or "Basic" edition. So here are your options:

  1. If you're going to be doing this more than once, consider upgrading to Home Premium.  As of today, you can get that upgrade here, for $52.55:

Microsoft Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade [Starter to Home Premium]

  2. It appears that Flip has quietly done away with their DVD-making service, so the next best thing is to use a 3rd party application to create your DVD.  I previously described a pretty good free application in this article. I just checked, and this program is compatible with Windows 7.

If you run across other good DVD-making solutions, please share your information with the rest of us...
